Flushing Dog Training

at the farm

Flushing breeds are born to find birds but it takes the right training to turn natural energy into steady, reliable field performance. At The Farm, our flushing dog program is built to sharpen your dog’s instincts, develop precision, and create a hunting partner you can count on.

Our Flushing Dog Training Phases

We offer range of training programs suitable for dogs of all ages and skill levels

Phase 1: Foundation Obedience and Introduction to Birds

  • On-leash obedience: sit, stay, recall, leash manners
  • Basic steadiness drills (focus on sit around mild distractions)
  • Intro to birds in controlled, positive settings
  • Building confidence and prey drive in young dogs

Phase 2: Quartering, Steadiness & Gun Conditioning

  • Teaching controlled quartering patterns close to the handler
  • Building environmental exposure: fields, cover, water
  • Gunfire conditioning and introduction to steadying around live flushes

Phase 3: Advanced Field Work and Handling

  • Off-leash quartering with whistle stops and hand signals (if needed)
  • Steady flush-to-shot behavior under real hunting conditions
  • Marking retrieves and delivery to hand
  • Exposure to a variety of game birds in diverse hunting setups

Comprehensive Health Screening

Let’s turn your dog’s drive into disciplined success — and build a flushing dog you’ll be proud to take to the field.

Why Trust The Farm for Flushing Dog Training?

  • Decades of combined field and training experience
  • Real hunting scenarios, not just controlled drills
  • Custom training plans based on breed, drive, and owner goals
  • One-on-one owner training to ensure success beyond our field

Our goal isn’t just a stylish flusher — it’s a reliable hunting partner who works with you, not just for the trainer.

What Our Flushing Training Covers

Quartering and Cover Work

Your dog will learn to efficiently search the field, working close and methodically to maximize bird-finding opportunities without ranging too far.

Steady to Flush and Shot

We teach dogs to remain composed after the flush — sitting or stopping automatically upon bird rise or gunfire, ensuring safety and control.

Bird Introduction and Contact

We properly introduce live birds to build drive, confidence, and careful exposure — setting your dog up for success when real birds fly.

Delivery to Hand

Your dog will learn to retrieve downed birds quickly and deliver them cleanly to hand — avoiding drops, mouthing, or bad habits.
